Shigeru Aoba

Aoba is one of NERV's bridge crew, stationed at his console with headphones and a easy, unbothered manner. He handles communications and surveillance during Angel attacks, feeding data to Misato and the command staff. Off-duty he's the one with the guitar, treating the end of the world with a musician's calm.

He's background texture done right: the show never explains Aoba, it just lets him exist as proof that NERV runs on ordinary people doing a job under impossible pressure. Jason Lee's dub reading keeps him wry and grounded, a small human note in rooms otherwise full of screaming klaxons and cosmic dread.
