Sherlock Holmes

A recovering addict fresh out of sober living in Brooklyn, this Sherlock Holmes was once London's most sought-after consulting detective before drugs cost him everything. Assigned a sober companion by his father, he treats deduction like an addiction he can't quit, tearing through crime scenes with restless, jittery brilliance and open contempt for slower minds.

Miller strips away the received poshness of the role and plays Holmes as a live wire: twitchy, hungry, still fighting his own chemistry. Transplanting him to New York and pairing him with a Watson who is his equal rather than his chronicler forces the writing to justify him anew, and Miller's raw, unglamorous performance makes recovery itself the mystery worth watching.
