Sharon Morris

Sharon is a London-based Irish schoolteacher in her early forties who has a short, intense fling with an American businessman passing through town. When it results in an unplanned pregnancy, she decides, almost on principle, to see where it goes with a man she barely knows. She's blunt, funny, and impatient with sentimentality.

Horgan (who co-wrote the show) gives Sharon a mouth that runs ahead of her better judgment and a refusal to perform likability, which makes her funnier and more believable than the usual rom-com heroine. The writing trusts her selfishness and fear as much as her warmth, and Horgan plays both without asking to be forgiven.
