Sgt. Stone

Sgt. Stone is one of the hardened non-commissioned officers who shape raw Marine recruits into something resembling soldiers before the fighting truly begins. He is brisk, exacting, and unsentimental, more interested in discipline than in comfort, and he expects the men under him to become reliable rather than liked.

Toby Leonard Moore plays the kind of authority figure war stories need but rarely dwell on: the voice of institutional hardness that recruits chafe against and later understand. He gives Stone a flat, practical certainty, letting small moments of exasperation or grim humor suggest a man shaped by more than he lets on.
