Sgt. Manuel "Manny" Rodriguez

Manny Rodriguez is a Marine sergeant already hardened by combat when the newer men arrive, and he treats war as a job to be done without illusions. Blunt, profane, and unsentimental, he drills discipline into green recruits, more interested in keeping them alive than liked, and wastes no time on comfort or explanation.

Bernthal plays the seasoned NCO type with real specificity — the coiled physicality, the flat delivery that suggests exhaustion rather than menace. He gives Rodriguez the weary authority of someone who has already watched this cycle play out with other units, making his hardness feel earned rather than performed, and oddly protective underneath it.
