Sgt. Elmo "Gunny" Haney

A weather-beaten career Marine attached to the young recruits of the 1st Marine Division, Gunny Haney is old enough to have fought in wars they've only read about. He drills them hard, spins tall tales of past campaigns, and carries himself like a man who has seen everything twice and trusts none of it to end well.

He's the show's live wire of old-world grit dropped among boys who don't yet know what waits for them, and Gary Sweet plays him with a gruff, half-mad twinkle that's funny until suddenly it isn't. Haney becomes a walking reminder that survival leaves marks, long before the newer Marines understand what those marks will cost.
