Senator

A senator appears in the halls of futuristic government, one more blustering functionary in a bureaucracy that treats the fate of Earth as an afterthought. He postures, deflects, and speaks in the hollow certainties of career politicians everywhere, more concerned with appearances and procedure than with whatever crisis has landed on his desk.

Billy West, already juggling half the show's cast, slips into the role with the same gift for vocal caricature he brings to Fry and Farnsworth, finding a distinct blowhard cadence for a character who exists mainly to be satirized. The joke lands because Futurama's politicians are drawn with such lazy, familiar contempt that the voice alone tells you everything.
