Scotty Wandell

Scotty Wandell is a chef working a catering gig for the sprawling, chaotic Walker family when he catches the eye of Kevin, the family's brittle, closeted-ish lawyer. Easygoing, funny, and entirely comfortable in his own skin, Scotty is unbothered by Kevin's nerves, and clearly has better things to do than play games.

Network dramas of that era rarely let a gay character be simply likable rather than a lesson, and Scotty is the exception: charming, a little teasing, visibly the more grounded half of his relationship. Macfarlane plays him with warmth instead of anxiety, so the show's most stable romance becomes, almost by accident, its most quietly radical element.
