Scary Mirror Narrator

A booming, unseen voice presiding over one of Futurama's horror-parody detours, the Scary Mirror Narrator exists purely to intone doom at the characters staring into the title object. He speaks in the clipped, portentous cadences of an old horror-trailer announcer, promising terrible visions with theatrical relish.

Maurice LaMarche built a career on exactly this kind of voice — deep, self-serious, dripping with mock-dread — and Futurama hands him a part that exists solely to be that instrument. The joke is entirely in delivery: the more gravely he intones nonsense, the funnier the parody lands, and LaMarche never once winks at it.
