Sarah Kay

Sarah Kay is a young solicitor living alone in Belfast, first glimpsed going through the ordinary motions of a private life — work, a run, a diary she keeps to sort her own thoughts. She's self-possessed and a little private, absorbed in her own routines, with no idea that someone has started watching her.

The show builds its dread almost entirely out of Sarah's ordinariness: the diary entries, the small domestic habits, the sense of a whole interior life going on regardless of who might be observing it. Laura Donnelly plays her without a flicker of foreboding, which is exactly what makes the surveillance framing the character so unbearable to watch.
