Character

Sandra Beeman

Sandra Beeman in The Americans (2013), played by Susan Misner.

Sandra Beeman is Stan's wife, keeping a Washington, D.C. household afloat while her husband works long, unexplained hours at the FBI. She senses the distance opening between them before she can name it, restless and increasingly drawn to something more honest than the polite unhappiness of her marriage.

The show could easily have made her scenery, but it treats her dissatisfaction as its own quiet plot, and Susan Misner plays the unease underneath domestic normalcy without tipping into melodrama. She's the ordinary cost of a spy's double life, rendered with real interiority rather than as a plot obstacle.

Because of Stan's lack of intimacy with her, she began attending EST meetings as a form of self-help. Frustrated with Stan's ongoing emotional rejection of her, she ultimately moved out of their house to be with her new boyfriend, Arthur.
