Character
Sam Carne
Sam Carne arrives in Nampara as Ross Poldark's half-brother, a miner with a Methodist faith that shapes everything he does. Earnest and unworldly, he wants honest work, a chapel full of souls, and to do right by his family. He speaks plainly, prays often, and treats kindness as a discipline rather than a mood.
Tom York plays sincerity without making it soft; Sam's faith is a spine, not a quirk, and the show lets him be genuinely good in a world full of scheming without turning him into a joke. Against Cornwall's feuds and appetites, his steadiness reads as its own quiet, stubborn form of drama.
Samuel "Sam" Carne was one of the younger brothers of Demelza Poldark who moved to Cornwall in 1794 with their younger brother Drake Carne.
