Sal's Friend #1

Sal's Friend #1 is exactly that: a nameless voice attached to Sal, the gruff dock boss at the Planet Express loading bay. He turns up in the margins of a scene, tossing in a line or a laugh, part of the background noise of futuristic New New York rather than anyone the plot pauses for.

Futurama built half its charm on throwaway bits like this, where a name as flat as 'Friend #1' gets filled in by a real cartoon voice pro. Maurice LaMarche, who can do a dozen distinct textures in an episode, treats even a nothing role with the same commitment as his showier ones, and that generosity is part of why the show's crowd scenes feel alive.
