Ryuk

Ryuk is a shinigami who drops his Death Note into the human world simply because he is bored of the Shinigami Realm. He attaches himself to Light Yagami once Light picks up the notebook, watching events unfold with detached amusement, refusing to interfere, and asking only for apples in return for his company.

He's the story's chorus and its darkest joke rolled into one: a god of death who treats human morality as entertainment. Nakamura's voice gives him a rasping, gleeful cackle that makes his amorality genuinely funny rather than menacing, and his refusal to take sides lets the show's ethics stay entirely human.
