Ryūichi Kazama is the captain of Kaio Academy's table tennis team, a player who treats the sport like a discipline of war. He drills himself and his teammates without mercy, has no patience for talent that won't work, and carries himself like someone already certain of where he's going to stand at the top.

The show could have made him a stock hard-ass, but Sakuya's clipped, unshowy delivery makes Kazama's severity feel like genuine conviction rather than posturing. His scenes work as a rebuke to the more gifted, lazier players around him — a reminder that will and repetition are their own kind of talent, and that conviction that rigid has its own cost.
