Ruth

Ruth is Amy Wong's mother, a wealthy Martian matriarch who appears whenever the Wong family fortune or Amy's love life needs meddling with. She is blunt, status-obsessed, and openly unimpressed by her daughter's choices, treating Amy's career and romances as problems to be corrected rather than respected.

Futurama uses Ruth sparingly but precisely: a few scenes are enough to explain exactly why Amy behaves the way she does. The voice work leans into brisk, needling comedy rather than cartoonish villainy, giving Ruth the specific sting of a parent who loves her child while making that love feel like a performance review.
