Rupert MacKenzie

Rupert MacKenzie is one of Dougal MacKenzie's roughest, funniest warriors, a barrel-chested Highlander who'd rather crack a joke than mince words. He's part of the band that scoops up Claire Randall on the road, suspicious of the strange Englishwoman but too irreverent to stay solemn about it for long.

O'Rourke plays him as pure comic ballast, all bluster and bawdy asides, without ever letting him become a caricature. He's the one who says what everyone else is thinking, usually crudely, and the warmth underneath the mockery makes him instantly likeable — a scene-stealer who never steals focus from the story.
