Roy Mustang is a State Alchemist colonel known as the Flame Alchemist, snapping gloved fingers to summon fire on command. He runs his subordinates with dry wit and visible ambition, openly stating he intends to climb the military ranks to the very top. Beneath the swagger he keeps a careful eye on Edward Elric's reckless investigations.
He's introduced as a smirking careerist, and the show lets that ambition curdle slowly into something with real moral weight, without ever announcing the shift. Shinichiro Miki plays him with a lazy, needling charm that snaps instantly into cold authority the moment fire is involved, and that contrast is what makes him magnetic to watch.
Roy Mustang (ロイ・マスタング, Roi Masutangu), also known as the Flame Alchemist (焔の錬金術師, Honō no Renkinjutsushi), is the tritagonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. He is a State Alchemist and officer in the Amestrian State Military. A hero of the Ishval Civil War and Edward Elric’s superior officer, Colonel Mustang is a remarkably capable commander who plans to become the next Führer of Amestris.
