Roy Kent is AFC Richmond's aging captain, a legendary midfielder whose body is starting to betray him. He scowls through press conferences, growls at teammates, and treats sincerity like an insult. Gruff, profane, and visibly furious at his own decline, he's a man who has built his whole identity around being hard to love.

Goldstein writes the character himself, and it shows in how precisely the grumpiness is calibrated — every insult lands with comic rhythm, and every so often the mask slips just enough to reveal someone tender underneath. The show bets that a scowling brute can become the softest heart in the room, and Goldstein makes you believe it instantly.
