Ross Poldark

Ross Poldark comes home to Cornwall from war to find his estate crumbling, his father dead, and the woman he loved engaged to his cousin. Proud, restless and stubbornly principled, he sets about rebuilding his family's failing mine and reputation, driven less by ambition than by a fierce, wounded sense of what is owed to him and to the people who depend on him.

Turner plays him as a man of action forced into brooding, and the friction is what holds the eye — a soldier's directness colliding with a landowner's obligations and a jilted lover's pride. The scripts give him real moral stubbornness rather than pure romance-hero polish, and Turner lets his temper and his tenderness read as the same quality misapplied.
