Rose Weissman

Rose Weissman presides over the Weissman household on Manhattan's Upper West Side with the fierce, exacting energy of a woman who believes life can be arranged as neatly as a seating chart. She's obsessed with matchmaking, appearances, and the perfect marriage she's engineered for her daughter Midge, and she rarely lets a lapse in decorum pass without comment.

Marin Hinkle plays Rose's fussiness with such crisp, needling specificity that every arched eyebrow lands as a punchline and a small tragedy at once. The writing lets her absurd fixations on hats, husbands, and Hebrew school reveal a woman terrified of irrelevance, and Hinkle finds the ache underneath the comedy without ever softening the edges.
