Rose Stagg

Rose Stagg is a friend of Paul Spector's family in Belfast, warm and unguarded, carrying on a secret affair with him that has nothing sinister about it from where she stands. She's ordinary, trusting, a little reckless in love, and utterly unaware of what the audience already suspects about the man she's involved with.

Valene Kane plays Rose with an openness that makes her feel real rather than incidental, a person with her own small life outside the plot's gravitational pull toward Paul. That ordinariness is the point: the show lets us like her before it asks us to worry about her, and the dread builds precisely because she doesn't share it.
