Ronald C. Spiers

Ronald Speirs is a lieutenant in another company of the 101st Airborne, known to the men of Easy Company mostly by rumor. Stories trail him — about prisoners, about nerve — long before he speaks a line. In combat he is eerily unbothered, calm to the point of seeming unreal.

The show builds him entirely out of secondhand talk before it lets him act, so when he finally does something on screen it lands with the weight of legend confirmed. Matthew Settle plays him flat and unreadable, never explaining the calm, which is exactly what makes the men's fear of him — and their fascination — so convincing.
