Rogelio de la Vega

Rogelio de la Vega bursts into his daughter Jane's life as a telenovela superstar with an ego to match his fame — vain, theatrical, and hungry to make up for lost time as a father. He wants recognition, love, and applause, often all at once, and he behaves accordingly: loudly, sincerely, and without embarrassment.

The show could have made him a punchline, but it keeps letting him be genuinely tender underneath the preening, and Jaime Camil plays both halves at full volume without ever losing the character's sincerity. His comic timing is immaculate, but what makes Rogelio last is how easily his vanity gives way to real, unguarded love.
