Rochelle Rock

Rochelle Rock runs the Rock household with a will nobody in Bed-Stuy dares test, stretching a tight budget while working herself ragged so her kids have what they need. She's loud, quick with a threat, quicker with love, and treats any disrespect from Chris, his siblings, or the outside world as a personal insult requiring immediate correction.

Tichina Arnold plays the volume all the way up without ever letting Rochelle become a cartoon of the angry mom — there's real exhaustion and real devotion underneath every threat. The writing lets her be terrifying and hilarious in the same breath, and Arnold's timing makes her the show's most quotable, most quietly moving presence.
