Rita drifts through the world of film sets and extras' holding pens that gives the show its title, one more ordinary person rubbing up against the vanity and awkwardness of the industry. She speaks plainly, unimpressed by celebrity, and gets on with the job while everyone around her jostles for status.

Liza Tarbuck brings a dry, unfussy naturalism that suits Extras' whole comic project: ordinary people set against showbiz absurdity. She plays Rita without straining for laughs, letting the character's groundedness quietly puncture the pretension swirling around her, which is exactly the joke the show keeps making.
