Rintarou Okabe

Rintarou Okabe is a self-proclaimed mad scientist, holed up in a cluttered Akihabara apartment with two members of his tiny, mostly invented Future Gadget Lab. He shouts into a phone that isn't connected, monologues about a shadowy organization only he perceives, and treats every ordinary afternoon like the opening move of a conspiracy. Underneath the theatrics, he's a broke, aimless college student desperate for his life to mean something.

The joke is that Okabe's paranoid genius act is pure affectation—until the show starts handing him real stakes and making him live inside the persona he built as a joke. Mamoru Miyano plays the shift beautifully, letting the booming voice crack into something raw without ever fully abandoning the bit, so the comedy and the anguish end up sharing the same breath.
