Ride Operator

A background functionary glimpsed running some attraction in the world of Futurama, the Ride Operator exists to wave riders through with brisk, bored professionalism. He has a job to do and little patience for questions, dispensing safety instructions or warnings with the flat indifference of someone who has said the same lines a thousand times.

Maurice LaMarche, a voice actor built for grandiosity, drops it entirely here for deadpan municipal tedium, and the contrast is the joke. Futurama thrives on exactly this kind of throwaway bit part rendered with total conviction, and LaMarche's flat delivery turns a one-line functionary into a small, memorable piece of the show's crowded universe.
