Ricky Ricardo

Ricky Ricardo is a Cuban bandleader at New York's Tropicana Club, married to Lucy and forever bracing himself against her latest scheme. He wants a peaceful home and a wife who stays out of show business, and he says so loudly, in escalating Spanish, before caving anyway. He loves her completely, which is the problem.

Desi Arnaz plays exasperation as a form of devotion, so every eye-roll and sputtered rant lands as affection rather than cruelty. He's also a genuine musical talent, letting the show cut to real conga-drum showmanship between the domestic chaos. The accent jokes are of their era, but Arnaz's warmth and timing keep Ricky the show's steady, lovable anchor.
