Rick Mellor

Rick Mellor is the gym teacher and coach at William Penn Academy, a walking wall of muscle who treats every drill like a life-or-death mission. He barks orders, flexes at inappropriate moments, and seems to genuinely believe that sweat and shouting can fix any teenage problem the Goldberg kids bring to school.

Bryan Callen plays him at full, unapologetic volume, and the show never asks him to dial it back — the joke is that Coach Mellor sincerely believes his own bravado. That commitment turns a stock 80s gym-teacher archetype into something specific and quotable, a blast of ridiculous machismo dropped into an otherwise cozy family sitcom.
