Rick Grimes

A small-town sheriff's deputy wakes from a coma to find the world overrun by the dead. Rick sets out to find his wife and young son, gathering survivors along the way. He's decent, dutiful, and instinctively protective — a lawman clinging to order in a world that no longer has any.

Andrew Lincoln plays Rick's decency as something hard-won rather than naive, a man visibly working to hold onto his moral compass when every instinct argues for cruelty. The show uses him as its measuring stick — his slow, believable erosion from cop to survivor gives the whole series its central question: what do you become to stay alive?
