Richard Alpert moves through the Others like a fixed point rather than a leader — always present, never explained, advising whoever is in charge without seeming to age a day. He speaks softly, watches everything, and seems to know more about the island's rules than anyone willing to say so.
Néstor Carbonell plays him with a stillness that reads as centuries of patience rather than mere calm — the eyeliner and unlined face doing quiet work before the show ever explains them. He's compelling precisely because he withholds: an advisor who has clearly seen this all before, and isn't telling you what 'this' is.
Richard Alpert (also known as Richardus and by his birth name Ricardo) was a long-time inhabitant of the Island, having arrived in 1867 as a slave on the Black Rock, a slave ship that was washed onto the Island.
