Regu

Regu is a boy-shaped machine with no memory of his own making, dug out of a pit by Riko and brought back to the orphanage that trains Cave Raiders. He speaks gently, fights fiercely when cornered, and wants only to learn who—or what—he was built to be before he descends into the Abyss with her.

Mariya Ise gives him a voice that's calm almost to a fault, which makes his sudden bursts of protective violence land harder. The show uses his ignorance of the world as a clean lens for wonder and horror alike, and his devotion to Riko—uncomplicated, almost childlike—grounds a story that keeps threatening to become unbearable.
