Red Beret Andrew

A fantasy version of Andrew Glouberman that pops up whenever the real Andrew wants to imagine himself as something more sophisticated than an awkward, hormone-addled middle schooler. Beret cocked, tone affected, he struts through Andrew's daydreams like a self-styled artist or intellectual, utterly convinced of his own cool.

John Mulaney already voices Andrew's anxious, spiraling inner monologue, so letting him play the character's own idealized self-image is a neat trick — the same actor undercutting the character from both directions. The beret and the affected swagger are funny precisely because they're so far from the real, squeaky, mortified kid underneath.
