Rebecca Bunch

Rebecca is a high-strung New York lawyer who, on the verge of making partner, has a chance run-in with her teenage summer-camp boyfriend and impulsively quits her job to follow him to West Covina, California. She insists this isn't about him at all — she's just found a wonderful new town, honestly.

The show and Rachel Bloom refuse to let Rebecca stay a rom-com heroine or a punchline; she's whip-smart, self-aware, and still capable of spectacularly bad decisions, breaking into song about her own delusions with total conviction. Bloom, who co-created the role, plays the mania and the ache as the same feeling, which is what makes her so funny and so exposed.
