Raymond Santana Sr.

Raymond Santana Sr. is called to the precinct the night his teenage son is picked up for questioning, a father summoned into a nightmare he doesn't yet understand. He trusts the system enough to let detectives talk, to sign what he's told to sign, believing cooperation will bring his boy home faster than resistance would.

Leguizamo plays the character's fear as almost domestic, a man out of his depth trying to do right by instinct rather than knowledge, and the performance never lets you condescend to him for it. The role indicts a whole system of coerced trust simply by showing how reasonable his misplaced faith looks in the moment.
