Ray Stussy

A Minnesota parole officer stewing in resentment, Ray Stussy watched his twin brother inherit their father's business and prosperity while he got a mustache, a rented condo, and a much younger girlfriend he's desperate to impress. He's petty, broke, and convinced life owes him a correction he intends to collect himself.

McGregor plays both Stussy twins, and Ray is the showier trick: paunchy, thinning, twitchy with grievance, he's a portrait of arrested resentment rather than menace. The performance finds pathos in his smallness—he wants so little, so badly, and so clumsily—which makes his scheming funnier and sadder than a more capable man's would be.
