Ray Butani

Ray Butani runs seemingly every small business in town — insurance, real estate, photography, whatever the moment calls for — and offers his services to the newly arrived Roses with relentless, unbothered cheer. He's eager to please, proud of his town, and utterly immune to the family's condescension, which he never even seems to register.

Rizwan Manji plays Ray at a pitch of sincere enthusiasm so total it becomes its own kind of comedy — he's never the butt of the joke because he's having too good a time to notice one's being made. The show could easily use him as a punching bag; instead it keeps letting his good nature win.
