A minor hospital worker glimpsed in the background of Futurama's sprawling world, the Rat Orderly is exactly what the title says: a rodent in scrubs, going about menial duties with the same deadpan indifference as every other overworked drone in the show's universe. He wants nothing more than to get through his shift.

Futurama's genius lives in throwaway details like this one—a joke that exists for a single beat and never explains itself. David Herman, who voices a rotating cast of oddballs throughout the series, gives even a one-line rat orderly a flat, put-upon delivery that makes the background feel as lived-in and absurd as the foreground.
