He treats every catastrophe with the same unbothered, honey-toned patter of a man selling used cars.

Billy West's voice work does all the heavy lifting here — that syrupy, unflappable radio-announcer cadence turns even apocalyptic news into something absurdly soothing. The joke is entirely in the mismatch between tone and content, and West never breaks the bit, which is exactly why it keeps landing.
