Princess Diana

Diana enters the royal family as a teenager, shy and unformed, chosen partly for her apparent malleability. She's warm, instinctively good with people and with the press in a way the family isn't, and hungry for affection in a marriage that quickly reveals itself as a mismatch. Her charm is real; so is her isolation.

The show is careful to give her interiority the institution denies her — loneliness rendered as claustrophobia, not melodrama. Corrin plays the vulnerability of youth colliding with protocol; Debicki takes the same woman further into self-possession without losing the ache underneath. Together they trace a person learning to perform for a system that never quite lets her in.
