Character
Prince of Space
Prince of Space in Futurama (1999), played by Phil LaMarr.
Prince of Space is the mustache-twirling villain of a creaky black-and-white space serial the Planet Express crew watches on TV. Clad in a lumpy robot-alien costume, he menaces Earth with wheezy threats and stiff, over-enunciated malice, every gesture pitched for an audience that stopped caring decades ago.
He is a pitch-perfect parody of ancient sci-fi hokum, and Phil LaMarr plays him with theatrical relish, all clipped pauses and grandiose sneering, as if the actor inside the suit still believes it's 1936. The joke is entirely in the commitment, and LaMarr never blinks.
Prince of Space woos Leela within a half hour and they announce plans to wed. The King of Space opposes the marriage so Fry challenges him to a duel, which if Fry loses, will mean his death. The duel is a joust and Leela acts as Fry's champion. She wins the duel but unknowingly, kills the Prince who secretly championed for the King.
