Plant Biologist

The Plant Biologist is one of Futurama's endless supply of background scientists, wheeled out whenever the plot needs an expert to explain some horticultural absurdity with total deadpan confidence. He appears, delivers his specialised nonsense, and vanishes back into the crowd of interchangeable professionals populating the show's future.

David Herman, already juggling several voices in the cast, gives this nobody the same flat, matter-of-fact seriousness he'd give a lead character, which is the joke. Futurama's genius is treating throwaway experts like the Plant Biologist as real people with real credentials, and that commitment to a one-line role is what makes the world feel oddly, delightfully thorough.
