Planet Express

The janitor at Planet Express delivery company, introduced puttering around the building with a mop and a total lack of urgency. He wants only to be left alone with his cleaning supplies, and treats every emergency, explosion or apocalypse with the same flat unconcern he'd give a spilled coffee.

Scruffy is a joke built entirely on withholding: the show keeps interrupting itself to cut to him doing nothing, and the deadpan of David Herman's delivery makes the nothing funnier than most punchlines. He works because Futurama trusts a running gag to earn its laughs through sheer patience rather than escalation.
