Pianist

The Pianist is exactly what the name suggests: a background musician who turns up wherever Futurama needs someone tickling the ivories, underscoring a scene rather than driving it. He doesn't want anything beyond playing his tune, and he barely registers as more than a fixture of the set.

David Herman, already doing heavy lifting elsewhere in the cast, tosses off this kind of walk-on with the same commitment he gives everything else, and that's the joke: Futurama's world feels lived-in precisely because even the piano player at the edge of the frame is fully voiced and fully there.
