Phyllis Lapin-Vance

Phyllis works sales at Dunder Mifflin, soft-spoken and easy to overlook in a room full of louder personalities. She's sweet-natured, a little shy, devoted to her boyfriend Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration, and content to let others take the spotlight while she quietly does her job.

The joke is that nobody expects much from Phyllis, which makes it delightful when she reveals a sharper edge or a private life fully as rich as anyone else's. Phyllis Smith plays her with gentle, unforced warmth, so the character's occasional flashes of steel or mischief land as genuine surprises rather than gags.
