Phone Operator

The Phone Operator turns up wherever Futurama needs someone on the other end of a call gone wrong, reciting the maddening menus and canned reassurances of customer service in the thirty-first century. She has no life outside the receiver, no name beyond her function, and no interest in helping quickly.

Tress MacNeille's gift for exasperating, singsong officialdom makes a one-line gag land every time. The character works precisely because she is disposable: a quick jab at the eternal horror of hold music and automated menus, delivered with just enough smug cheer to feel uncomfortably real.
