He's charming and easy company, quick with encouragement, and clearly good at his job. From the start he seems to see something in Kate that she's still learning to see in herself.

Chris Geere gives Phillip an effortless warmth that never tips into caricature, which is exactly the trick the role needs. He can't just be a nice guy or a plot device — he has to feel like a real, appealing presence in Kate's life, and Geere's low-key charisma makes the audience understand the pull without the show having to explain it.
