Philippa Featherington

Philippa is one of the Featherington sisters, thrust onto the marriage market by a mother determined to see her wed well. She giggles easily, chatters about little beyond gowns and gossip, and seems entirely untroubled by the season's cutthroat calculations — happy simply to be liked, to be looked at, to be chosen.

Harriet Cains plays the silliness so straight it becomes funny rather than pitiable, finding real comic timing in a character easy to write off as filler. The show uses her flightiness as contrast to Penelope's sharpness, and Cains keeps finding small, specific choices — a laugh held too long, a reaction a beat too late — that make Philippa feel like a person rather than a punchline.
