Pfc. Robert Leckie

Robert Leckie enters the war a wisecracking Rutgers-educated writer from New Jersey, quick with a joke and a keen, watchful eye. He signs up for the Marines alongside his friends, still boyish and half-romantic about the whole enterprise, not yet touched by what the Pacific will actually demand of him.

James Badge Dale plays Leckie's intelligence as both gift and wound — the same sensitivity that makes him observant makes him vulnerable to what he witnesses. The show frames him as its literary conscience, and Dale never overplays that role, letting silences and small, exhausted glances carry the character's fraying composure.
